Schwerin Germany Walking and Public Transport Guide 2009 for a personal tour suggestion

Welcome to Germany!
I like Schwerin! Because it has somehow everything on a small area so you do not need to much time and energy to walk to discover a lot.
And as the BUGA 2009 (= Bundesgartenschau = Federal Garden Festival/Show) is in Schwerin a lot of flowers will expecting you during the summer in Schwerin:

Normally you would arrive at the Central Station (= Schwerin Hbf = Hauptbahnhof).
It was interesting for me to see some heritage from the Communist era:
"Long live the country of peace and democracy under the leadership of the Soviet Union!!!"
Still visible although its now 20 years ago since the wall was turned down.
From here its quite easy to get to downtown.
The best is to walk (seperate instructions will follow)
or
to take the bus or tram from this stop in front of the station building.
Only 10 and 11 are not going to city center.
All others do and you need to buy a ticket at this machine.
Enter on the left for "Einzelfahrschein" (= Single ticket) and then pay 1.50 EUR.
Its one stop but a longer walk. You can continue later at Marienplatz with the photo guide.
Subject you are coming by Regional Train from Rostock you can stay one more stop to
Schwerin Mitte (= Center).
Get on the bridge after you left the train.
On the left is the Schlosspark-Center Shopping Mall and the Dome. So thats your rough direction.
So you walk downhill the street towards the Shopping Mall and make a turn to the left and walk into the Mall.
You arrive under this glass roof:
Turn right to the direction of the uphill-running moveable walkway...
until you reach the secon glass roof...
Move two floors down...
... and get out to Marienplatz... (Subject you took the tram from Schwerin Central Station you should be now here...).
Just straight ahead...
And you see old and new... Old left from the Communist era when there was no money to spend to keep the historical houses...
And today frequently undone because property is not cleared...
Its surprising to find such quarters in former East Germany...
And in other side streets you see how much money was spent to make everything new...
In the right corner is already the Castle which appear in the back...
But I am hungry... I need typical North German food:

Unfortunately only in German... If I have time I will translate the great menu...
So before you arrive the castle turn left to enter the restaurant...
And here I could order original East German food like 20-30 years ago:
W�rzfleisch... (Spice meat...) = mostly meat in cream gravy with mushrooms with melted cheese...
Put some Worcestersauce... on the meat...
I discovered too late that they offered my most favourite East German food: Pork Steak with W�rzfleisch...
And then one of the best "Bratkartoffel" (Country fried) with "Sauerfleisch" (Sour meat) and Sauce Tartare...
"Sauerfleisch" is cold. Pork in jelly in glass... I love it... and it was great...
After the meat lets go back castle-bound...
and here classical architecture style...
And then the castle...
and already everything under construction in preperation to BUGA 2009.
Between the Museum and the Castle its the lake of Schwerin...
Opposite of the Castle is the Museum and Theater...
From here you can start your lake cruises...
After your visit in the Castle and in the parks around BUGA 2009 you can walk in to the town to see the Cathedrale (Dom).
From the market square you can find mini-buses which go on a little sightseeing tour...
Art at the market square...
The Cathedrale is in the typical brick architecture of the Hanseatic era...
... and opposite you see also the Hanseatic architecture style...
... but also the typical German woodframe houses...
So you maybe understand why I like to go to Schwerin...
