Oswayo Valley Memorial Library adopted a Book Donation Policy


The Oswayo Valley Memorial Library Board of Trustees adopted a Book Donation Policy at the March 2018 meeting. Library storage is very limited, so in order to keep the downstairs meeting room usable and in good order the new policy is as follows. Thank you for your cooperation!

All material must be in like-new or at most gently-used condition; no torn, yellowed, water-damaged, or marked pages; no broken bindings or stained covers.
Non-fiction, informational books should be no more than 3 years old to avoid providing outdated or inaccurate information to patrons; some topics, like technology or medical information must be newer than 3 years old.

Acceptable donations
  • Popular fiction
  • New non-fiction (published within the last 3 years)
  • Award winners
  • Children�s books
  • DVDs
Items unacceptable for donation
  • Encyclopedias and textbooks
  • Reader�s Digest condensed books
  • Cassettes (audio or video) or software
  • VHS
  • Items containing outdated information
  • Items in poor physical condition, for example: broken spine, moldy, water damaged, mildewed, missing or yellowed pages, etc.
  • Items that have been in storage
